Government Shutdown Resources

As of 12:01 a.m. on October 1, federal funding for a number of government operations has expired. Each year, Congress must pass appropriations legislation to continue funding the federal government. On September 19, I supported a measure that would have maintained current federal funding levels through November 21 and provided lawmakers additional time to finalize the full-year budget. This resolution was free of controversial policy riders and ultimately passed the House of Representatives. Unfortunately, Senate Democrats blocked this measure, resulting in a lapse in government funding. Many federal agencies are now unable to operate at full capacity, although programs considered essential by law will continue to function.

Even during the shutdown, my office remains fully operational and available to assist residents of Florida’s 27th Congressional District with any issues involving federal agencies. While some agencies may experience staffing shortages and processing delays, we can continue to submit inquiries and advocate on your behalf. To submit a casework request on our website, click here.

My office is committed to keeping you informed on how this shutdown could impact your life here in South Florida. Core services such as Social Security, Medicare, and veteran benefits will remain active. However, agencies are still finalizing their contingency plans.

Impacts will vary across agencies. Visit the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) website for more information.

Which services will continue?

The following programs and services will remain active, although their respective agencies may experience staffing reductions. This list isn’t exhaustive—my office is actively monitoring updates and will share new information as it becomes available.

Agency-Specific Guidance

As federal agencies continue to issue guidance on their shutdown plans, my office will add them below:

Resources for Federal Workers in the 27th District

Federal employees living and working in District 27 may be furloughed or required to work without pay during the shutdown. By law, they will receive back pay once government funding is restored.

For information specific to your agency, please check its website (e.g., www.dhs.gov, www.va.gov) and refer to the human resources or shutdown resources section.
