Salazar’s Legislation Protecting America’s Medical Supply Chains Act passes Financial Services Committee

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar (FL-27) welcomed the inclusion of her legislation, H.R. 7777, the Protecting America’s Medical Supply Chains Act, in the Defense Production Act (DPA) Reauthorization which was recently approved by the House Financial Services Committee in a bipartisan vote.
Her legislation modernizes the Defense Production Act to ensure the federal government can more effectively secure and strengthen supply chains for critical medical materials, including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and biological products, that are essential to both national defense and public health.
“The COVID-19 pandemic exposed just how vulnerable America’s medical supply chains had become. No nation should depend on foreign adversaries for the medicines, medical equipment, and lifesaving materials our people rely on. I am proud that my legislation was included in the Defense Production Act reauthorization because it takes concrete steps to strengthen domestic production and ensure America can respond quickly in times of crisis. Protecting our medical supply chains is not just a healthcare issue, it is a national security imperative.”
By prioritizing the resilience and reliability of America’s medical supply chains, Rep. Salazar’s measure helps ensure that families, frontline workers, and vulnerable communities have access to lifesaving resources when they need them most, especially in times of crisis.
