SALAZAR’S IDB CAPITAL INCREASE ACT SIGNED INTO LAW, STRENGTHENING U.S. ECONOMIC LEADERSHIP IN THE WESTERN HEMISPHERE

February 18, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Representative María Elvira Salazar’s (FL-27) IDB Capital Increase Act (H.R. 6892) has been signed into law as part of H.R. 7148, the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2026, marking another legislative win that strengthens U.S. economic leadership and engagement across the Western Hemisphere.

The law authorizes the Secretary of the Treasury to purchase 25,000 new shares of IDB Invest, the private-sector arm of the Inter-American Development Bank, expanding its capacity to finance development projects across Latin America and the Caribbean.

This investment will create new opportunities for American companies, increase U.S. influence within the region’s leading development institution, and support economic growth and stability throughout the hemisphere.

“America benefits from a strong and economically secure Western Hemisphere,” said Rep. Salazar. “This investment expands opportunities for U.S. businesses while supporting development and prosperity across Latin America and the Caribbean. When our neighbors grow stronger, so do we.”

The United States is the largest shareholder in the Inter-American Development Bank, which finances major infrastructure and private-sector projects across the Americas. This capital increase strengthens IDB Invest’s ability to support private-sector development and advance U.S. economic interests throughout the region.
