Salazar’s “Enhancing Competition in Contracting Orders Act” Clears House Small Business Committee

February 1, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. –Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) announced that her and Rep. Hillary Scholten (D-MI)’s bill, the Enhancing Competition in Contracting Orders Act (H.R. 5450), passed the House Small Business Committee in a bipartisan, unanimous vote.

This is a fantastic bill because it gives small businesses a chance to access top-tier federal contracts,” said Rep. Salazar. “The opportunity competition creates is the American way. My bill recognizes this principle and helps Miami small businesses compete with the big boys.”

The Enhancing Competition in Contracting Orders Act amends the Small Business Act to allow small businesses in established HUBZones to access certain federal government contracts that were not previously available to them given previously set price evaluation preferences.

By relieving the preferences, small businesses in Miami will be able to compete for federal contracts, providing economic opportunity for them and for District 27 residents as a whole.

Congresswoman Salazar is working to get this bill passed by the full House of Representatives.
