Salazar Unveils $3 Million Federal Investment in Miami Dade College at Historic Job Fair

MIAMI, FL – Today, Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) joined over a thousand of her constituents in Florida’s 27th Congressional District for her office’s Job Fair at Miami Dade College’s Padrón Campus in Little Havana. As part of her work to increase economic prosperity, she also announced a major federal investment to bring more job training and resources to Miami.
At the Job Fair, Congresswoman Salazar presented Miami Dade College President Madeline Pumariega with $3 million that she secured for the school in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024, legislation she gladly supported. The funds will go towards renovating their newly acquired and historic Dyer Federal Courthouse building into a new, cutting-edge workforce development, innovation, and culture center.
“Miami Dade College has been a leader in this community for over 60 years, helping cultivate the public sphere of education, innovation, and leadership that makes Miami the envy of the world,” said Rep. Salazar. “I am proud to present $3 million that I was able to secure for Miami Dade College's Dyer Courthouse renovation. I also want to thank the College for allowing us to use this beautiful space for more than 60 companies to come and offer members of our community a job. That’s democracy, that’s capitalism.”
As part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024, Congresswoman Salazar worked closely with the House Appropriations Committee to deliver hard-earned results for Miami. This year alone, Salazar secured $23 million for 14 distinct projects designed to improve Miami’s coastal infrastructure and environment, water supply, workforce development efforts, and housing for senior citizens.
In response to the District’s growing workforce needs, the Congresswoman gladly organized an event with more than 50 employers from the public and private sectors to meet with potential applicants who are looking to find their slice of the American Dream.
“I want to thank Congresswoman Salazar for her hard work, leadership, and dedication to our community. She has helped us here at Miami Dade College make investments that continue to build and lift our community,” said Miami Dade College President Madeline Pumariega. “Congresswoman Salazar leads with heart and passion for the American Dream, and stands tall and firm for a free America, a free Latin America, and a free Cuba.”
Since taking office, Congresswoman Salazar has secured nearly $64 million for the residents of Florida’s 27th Congressional District. Her direct advocacy in Congress resulted in funding to improve healthcare, promote climate resiliency, enhance Miami’s water infrastructure, reduce flooding, build housing, support law enforcement, create jobs, and improve public safety.
