Salazar Secures Second Term as Western Hemisphere Subcommittee Chair

January 10, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) announced that she will continue to chair the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee on the House Foreign Affairs Committee in the 119th Congress.

In her first term as Chair, Rep. Salazar held 11 hearings on the most pressing issues facing the United States and Latin America and sent dozens of letters urging the Biden Administration and other agencies to remain steadfast in our support of allies and to stand strong against our enemies.

As the Gateway to the Americas, Miami is home to hundreds of thousands of Americans who still have strong ties to the countries from which they or their families immigrated, said Chairwoman Salazar.I am ready to help President-elect Trump and Chairman Brian Mast deliver on the America First foreign policy agenda in the Western Hemisphere from my position on the Subcommittee. To the Cuban, Venezuelan, and Nicaraguan regimes: your time is up.

The Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere has jurisdiction over the United States’ foreign policy towards Latin America, the Caribbean, and Canada. It deals with some of the major issues facing the United States, including regional migration, sanctions, economic partnerships, and international security. With the incoming Trump Administration, these issues will take top priority as Chairwoman Salazar seeks to fight socialist regimes, combat the migration crisis, curtail Chinese, Russian, and Iranian influence, and build American economic might in our hemisphere.
