Salazar Recognizes Miami Police Officers for Bravery and Heroism

February 9, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) recognized 75 police officers across Florida’s 27th Congressional District for their bravery and heroism as they keep the people of Miami-Dade County safe.

Police officers who received recognition were chosen in a rigorous nomination process between the Congresswoman’s office and police chiefs across Miami.

Today, we are honoring those who sacrifice their security and lives to protect ours,” said Rep. Salazar. “Miami is known to be a bastion of security, where crime is low and you feel safe walking down the street. The least I can do as Congresswoman for District 27 is honor our men and women in uniform.”

The staff at Miami-Dade College Padrón Campus graciously hosted the event where Rep. Salazar personally awarded 75 police officers from Miami-Dade County with Certificates of Special Congressional Recognition.

Police officers were present from Miami-Dade County, the City of Miami, Coral Gables, Cutler Bay, Palmetto Bay, Pinecrest, Key Biscayne, and West Miami.

Since coming into Congress, Rep. Salazar has championed legislation to support the brave men and women who keep Miami safe. In Fiscal Year 2023, Salazar secured a $3.75 million grant to upgrade the Miami-Dade Police Department platform to provide our police with the latest, cutting-edge equipment to protect our communities. She also led legislation to help police departments with officer recruitment, community outreach and public education, addressing retail crime, and fighting human trafficking.
