Salazar Exposes SBA’s Voter Registration Scheme in Michigan Before 2024 Elections

June 5, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) exposed the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) voter registration scheme to secure votes in Michigan, a battleground state, ahead of the 2024 elections.

The Small Business Administration was created to help Americans start, build, and grow their businesses. Using federal resources to help secure a political victory goes far beyond the scope of the SBA’s mission and purpose. Unfortunately, instead of devoting federal resources to help struggling small businesses, this money went to political activities. Rep. Salazar is committed to ensuring our taxpayer dollars are spent to benefit all Americans, not just those who seek to remain in power.

The evidence is pointing to the Biden Administration using taxpayer money illegally to increase their chances of winning reelection, said Rep. Salazar. How will the American people know if the SBA will truly remain nonpartisan when they are registering voters?

The House Committee on Small Business released the full “Memorandum of Understanding” (MOU) between the Small Business Administration and Michigan’s Department of State to increase voter registration in the State of Michigan by designating the SBA as a voter registration agency under the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA).

The MOU also details the creation of a “Michigan NVRA coordinator” by the Small Business Administration to oversee and manage voter registration services. In return, Michigan’s Department of State will give SBA officials voter registration training, including on online and in-person voter registration.

It is the duty of the House Committee on Small Business to investigate all potentially illegal and unconstitutional actions taken by the Small Business Administration. Congresswoman Salazar is committed to expose the truth and to bring any bad actors in the federal government to justice.

BACKGROUND:

Last month, the House Committee on Small Business retrieved a video recording of an SBA Special Advisor alleging that SBA Administrator Isabel Guzman was indirectly campaigning for President Joe Biden. At the same time, SBA press releases also indicated Administrator Guzman traveled to several critical battleground states, including Michigan, and invited Democratic Members of Congress nearly 8 times more frequently than Republican Members.

The Committee also released maps that overlay former SBA events, census data, Michigan Department of State data, and publicly reported information of Democrat-targeted voter blocs.

An investigation by the House Small Business Committee found that 22 out of 25 SBA outreach events from January to April have taken place in counties with the highest population of Democratic National Committee (DNC) target demographics.
