REP. SALAZAR VOTES ‘YES’ ON H.R. 23, TO PROTECT FAMILIES AND SMALL BUSINESS FROM IRS OVERREACH

January 9, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Maria Elvira Salazar (FL-27) released the following statement after voting ‘Yes’ on H.R. 23, the ‘Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection’ Act. The legislation would deny the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) the funding to hire 87,000 additional IRS agents, which would have resulted in more frequent audits on Americans:

“A free economy requires a tax system that takes only what is necessary, and no more,” said Rep. Salazar. “The IRS shouldn’t fill its coffers at the expense of working families and small businesses who cannot afford to fight 87,000 IRS agents. I am proud to vote for this bill that will grant taxpayers in my district the liberty to create wealth and prosperity without having to fear the IRS.”

H.R. 23, as introduced by Rep. Salazar and her colleagues, rescinds all new IRS funding designed to sequester wealth from middle-class families and small businesses across our nation.

“The IRS should work on behalf of all Americans, not against them,” added Salazar.

H.R. 23 passed the House of Representatives with a 221-210 vote.
