CONGRESSWOMAN SALAZAR CELEBRATES PASSAGE OF PUERTO RICO STATUS ACT IN HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar (R-FL-27) issued the following statement following the passage of Puerto Rico Status Act (H.R. 8393) in the House of Representatives this afternoon:
“Today, the House of Representatives passed the Puerto Rico Status Act, and I celebrate my good friend and colleague Resident Commissioner Jenniffer González-Colón for introducing such an important piece of legislation for the people of Puerto Rico.
For too long, Puerto Ricans have not been allowed to determine their own political destinies, and this bill would allow them to do exactly that.
Puerto Ricans should be able to decide whether they want to become a state, seek independence, or have independence with Free Association. The United States, in turn, should respect the democratic will of the Puerto Rican people and address this longstanding issue.”
