FY 2027 COMMUNITY FUNDING PROJECT REQUESTS

Title: University of Miami – Military and Emergency Preparedness Equipment
• Project Sponsor: University of Miami
• Project Amount: $3 million
• Description: This project will strengthen military medical readiness and regional emergency preparedness through the acquisition of advanced life-saving medical technologies and integration into standardized, measurement-based training programs at the University of Miami’s Gordon Center for Simulation and Innovation in Medical Education.
Title: University of Miami – Feeding the Future (Aquaculture)
• Project Sponsor: University of Miami
• Total Amount: $2.5 million
• Purpose: This project will allow for numerous advanced workforce training opportunities in cutting-edge sustainable aquaculture techniques and technologies, while also facilitating commercial-scale production of seedstock for many of the most promising species identified for marine aquaculture development at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science.
Title: Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) – Counterterrorism and Preparedness

• Amount Requested: $500,000
• Project Description: This project will expand MDSO capabilities and specialized personnel assigned to counterterrorism monitoring and threat analysis
Title: Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) – Tactical Vehicle Acquisition
• Project Sponsor: Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office
• Amount Requested: $500,000
• Project Description: This project will help MDSO acquire a new tactical vehicle to replace one at the end of its usefulness, which will protect law enforcement officers and the public during high-stakes operations conducted by the highly-specialized Special Response Team and Rapid Deployment Force
Title: Florida International University – Center for Alzheimer’s Data and Research
• Project Sponsor: Florida International University
• Amount Requested: $15.9 million
• Project Description: This project will help establish a National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) Center for Quantitative Neurodegeneration Measurement & Translational Analytics (QNTA-AD) at Florida International University, which will be the first integrated, cross-scale quantitative measurement framework linking blood biomarkers, digital pathology, spatial transcriptomics, structural protein conformation, and clinical staging in Alzheimer’s disease.
