FY 2027 COMMUNITY FUNDING PROJECT REQUESTS

Title: University of Miami – Military and Emergency Preparedness Equipment
  •  Project Sponsor: University of Miami
  • Project Amount: $3 million
  • Description: This project will strengthen military medical readiness and regional emergency preparedness through the acquisition of advanced life-saving medical technologies and integration into standardized, measurement-based training programs at the University of Miami’s Gordon Center for Simulation and Innovation in Medical Education.
     
Title: University of Miami – Feeding the Future (Aquaculture)
  • Project Sponsor: University of Miami
  • Total Amount: $2.5 million
  • Purpose: This project will allow for numerous advanced workforce training opportunities in cutting-edge sustainable aquaculture techniques and technologies, while also facilitating commercial-scale production of seedstock for many of the most promising species identified for marine aquaculture development at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science.

Title: Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) – Counterterrorism and Preparedness
  • Project Sponsor: Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office
  • Amount Requested: $500,000
  • Project Description: This project will expand MDSO capabilities and specialized personnel assigned to counterterrorism monitoring and threat analysis

Title: Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) – Tactical Vehicle Acquisition
  • Project Sponsor: Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office
  • Amount Requested: $500,000
  • Project Description: This project will help MDSO acquire a new tactical vehicle to replace one at the end of its usefulness, which will protect law enforcement officers and the public during high-stakes operations conducted by the highly-specialized Special Response Team and Rapid Deployment Force

Title: Florida International University – Center for Alzheimer’s Data and Research
  • Project Sponsor: Florida International University
  •  Amount Requested: $15.9 million
  • Project Description: This project will help establish a National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) Center for Quantitative Neurodegeneration Measurement & Translational Analytics (QNTA-AD) at Florida International University, which will be the first integrated, cross-scale quantitative measurement framework linking blood biomarkers, digital pathology, spatial transcriptomics, structural protein conformation, and clinical staging in Alzheimer’s disease.

  • Amount Requested: $1.2 million
  • Project Description: This project will support the development of a dedicated dog park, installation of secure perimeter fencing around Cooper Park, and improve the drainage system serving Cooper Park.

Title: Palmetto Bay – Veterans' Regional Park Phase II

  • Project Sponsor: Village of Palmetto Bay
  • Amount Requested: $3.86 million
  • Project Description: This project will help complete Phase II of the Veterans’ Regional Park in Palmetto Bay, which includes additional memorial elements honoring all branches of the Armed Forces, educational features, shade structures, landscaping enhancements, a restroom facility, and gathering areas that support public ceremonies and community events such as Veterans Day and Memorial Day commemorations.

Title: City of Miami – East Flagami Flood Mitigation (Pump Station)

  • Project Sponsor: City of Miami
  • Amount Requested: $3.47 million
  • Project Description: This project will help reduce flood risk and improve resilience through new and upsized stormwater inlets and pipes, exfiltration trenches, force mains and a new stormwater pump station.

Title: Village of Pinecrest – Ludlam Road (SW 67th Ave) Resurfacing Project

  • Project Sponsor: Village of Pinecrest
  • Amount Requested: $3.84 million
  • Project Description: This project will allow for the milling and resurfacing of the Village's primary arterial road, specifically Ludlam Road from SW 136 Street to SW 104 Street, which will enhance safety and improve driving conditions and access for both local residents and those from surrounding communities.

Title: West Miami – Softball Field Revitalization 

  • Project Sponsor: City of West Miami
  • Amount Requested: $1.75 million
  • Project Description: This project will level the softball field, install artificial turf, and upgrade the drainage system at the West Miami Recreation Center. 

Title: Key Biscayne – Coastal Storm Risk Management Feasibility Study

  • Project Sponsor: Village of Key Biscayne
  • Amount Requested: $1.1 million
  • Project Description: This project will allow the US Army Corps of Engineers to continue its feasibility study to develop a Coastal Storm Risk Management project aimed at identifying shoreline protection solutions for the vulnerable barrier island village, an area with over 15,000 people and close to $10 billion of assessed property.

Title: City of Miami – Brickell and Coconut Grove Seawalls

  • Project Sponsor: City of Miami
  • Amount Requested: $1.52 million
  • Project Description: This project will help replace and improve seawalls, improve pipes, and install tidal valves at Royal Road and Biscayne Bay, which will enhance coastal resilience, reduce flooding, and improve public safety.

Title: PortMiami – Roadway Improvements

  • Project Sponsor: PortMiami
  • Amount Requested: $7 million
  • Project Description: This project will help improve and expand the Port's tunnel, roadway surfaces, and stormwater drainage, which will reduce port traffic in downtown Miami, speed the movement of goods, and improve transportation safety for a port of national economic significance that is responsible for $61 billion in economic impact.

Title: Miami-Dade College – Miami Freedom Tower Improvements

  • Project Sponsor: Miami-Dade College
  • Amount Requested: $4 million
  • Project Description: This project will help address urgent preservation needs at the Miami Freedom Tower, including restoration of its distinctive facade and terracotta details, and essential Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility enhancements, which will improve community access and prevent further deterioration of a National Historic Landmark.

Title: Village of Pinecrest – Kendall Drive (SW 88th St) Resurfacing Project

  • Project Sponsor: Village of Pinecrest
  • Amount Requested: $952,000
  • Project Description: This project will help make critical improvements along a primary arterial road along the Village's northern boundary, specifically Kendall Drive from SW 67th Ave/Ludlam Road to SW 57th Ave/Red Road, which will reduce long-term maintenance costs and improve safety.

Title: West Miami – Citywide Drainage Improvements

  • Project Sponsor: City of West Miami
  • Amount Requested: $2 million
  • Project Description: This project will strengthen community safety, environmental protection, and long-term sustainability by upgrade the City's pump stations with modern technology, including early-warning monitoring systems, digital maintenance records, and the installation or procurement of emergency generators. 

Title: Palmetto Bay – Stormwater Sub-Basin 11 Improvements

  • Project Sponsor: Village of Palmetto Bay
  • Amount Requested: $1.16 million
  • Project Description: This project will strengthen flood control and deliver water quality benefits by improving and adding additional catch basins, manholes, culverts, and exfiltration trenches, and installing a new outfall and headwall connection to an adjacent canal, as well as cleaning and flushing the existing stormwater system.

Title: South Miami – Septic to Sewer Conversion Project, Subarea K Phase II

  • Project Sponsor: City of South Miami
  • Amount Requested: $3.04 million
  • Project Description: This project will protect groundwater and Biscayne Bay, while reducing nutrient pollution and improving long-term resilience by installing a lift station, sewer mains, service laterals, and related infrastructure that will allow 205 homes to transition from septic systems to the Miami-Dade County sanitary sewer system.

Title: Cutler Bay – SW 207 Street and SW 85 Avenue Water Quality Improvement

  • Project Sponsor: Town of Cutler Bay
  • Amount Requested: $2 million
  • Project Description: This project will install an additional 3,600 linear feet of exfiltration trench, pipes, and add and replace catch basins, which will improve water quality and mitigate flooding in a hazard area.

Title: Coral Gables – Wastewater Improvements 

  • Project Sponsor: City of Coral Gables
  • Amount Requested: $2 million
  • Project Description: This project would be used to address inflow and infiltration (I&I) in the sewer system to reduce the amount of untreated wastewater entering the environment. This is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it will reduce pollutants, improve public health, and support healthier aquatic ecosystems.
