The Economic Impact of the Dignity Act

The Dignity Act of 2023 is the most far-reaching, complete overhaul of the U.S. immigration system since the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. Though the Dignity Act is seen primarily as a piece of immigration legislation, it is more helpful to understand the bill through an economic and national security lens.

After having met with hundreds of stakeholder groups across industries, one glaring challenge they all faced was that of the labor shortage America faces. A low unemployment rate and unstable macroeconomic conditions has left the United States without a labor base to fill the 8.8 million job openings we have.

Luckily, the Dignity Act will single handedly solve this issue for decades to come. A recent report from the Bipartisan Policy Center finds that the legislation’s green card processing reforms alone will add over $10 trillion to the United States’ GDP over 10 years, with over $440 billion of those benefits going to the State of Florida.

The Dignity Act will have substantially greater economic benefits than those outlined in the report, as it addresses other broken parts of our immigration system not included in this analysis.
