Salazar Issues Statement on Bogus Maduro ‘Referendo Esequibo’

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Western Hemisphere Subcommittee Chairwoman María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) issued the following statement in response to the Maduro regime hosting a referendum on the Essequibo region, distracting from the presidential election to be held next year:
“The corrupt Maduro regime once again desperately seeks to drum up support after cowardly trying to deny María Corina Machado’s right to oppose him in the upcoming elections. After winning more than 90% of the opposition vote, María Corina now faces the regime distracting from her momentum by resorting to the typical socialist tactic of invading other countries. The Venezuelan people see through this charade, and I stand by them in their fight to free themselves from Socialism of the 21st Century.”
Chairwoman Salazar is one of Congress’ loudest advocates for liberty in Venezuela, and continues to hold the Maduro regime accountable from the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
