Reps. Salazar and Roy Congratulate President-Elect Javier Milei of Argentina, Welcome New Chapter in U.S.-Argentina Relationship

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Reps. María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) and Chip Roy (R-TX) sent a letter to Argentine President-Elect Javier Milei congratulating him on his historic victory over Peronist tyranny in the presidential election held earlier this month.
A libertarian economist by profession, Milei is a fierce proponent of free markets, economic liberty, a strong relationship with the United States, and has promised to dollarize the Argentine economy. The United States must engage positively with Milei to counter the growing influence of the Chinese Communist Party, Russia, and Iran in the Americas.
The legislators wrote, “Under your leadership, Argentina can usher in a new era of economic prosperity, end rampant inflation brought on by years of leftist fiscal and monetary policy, and serve as another beacon of liberty in the Western Hemisphere.”
“We also look forward to working with you to promote economic growth and security in the Western Hemisphere through trade and other mechanisms while combating the growing influence of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), Russia, Venezuela, and repressive socialist ideologies in South America,” they added.
As Chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, Rep. Salazar has championed the cause for liberty in Argentina, a nation dogged by socialism and corruption. This year, she introduced legislation to place sanctions on current Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and her associates for robbing the Argentine people of billions of pesos.
She also denounced the Peronist administration for allowing the Chinese Communist Party to operate a deep space station the size of 400 football stadiums in the heart of Patagonia without the supervision of the Argentine government.
Reps. Salazar and Roy were also joined by Reps. Doug Lamborn (R-CO), Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Gary Palmer (R-AL), Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN), Andrew Clyde (R-GA), Andy Ogles (R-TN), Warren Davidson (R-OH), Lance Gooden (R-TX), and Matt Rosendale (R-MT).
