REP. SALAZAR AND SEN. RICK SCOTT INTRODUCE RESOLUTION CONDEMNING SOCIALISM AS A FAILED IDEOLOGY

October 27, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, Representative María Elvira Salazar introduced (H.Con.Res.58), a resolution condemning socialism as a failed ideology and the antithesis of the American Dream.

As far-left politicians like New York’s Zohran Mamdani openly embrace socialist ideologies, Congresswoman Salazar's measure serves as a warning that socialism leads ony to collective tyranny, shared poverty, and human misery. Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) is leading the companion resolution in the Senate.

Throughout her career, Congresswoman Salazar has led the charge against socialist regimes across the hemisphere and is now warning that these same failed policies are creeping into the United States.

"History is clear: from Stalin’s gulags and Cambodia’s killing fields to Castro’s firing squads in Havana, socialism has always ended in misery, suffering, and death. Entire nations have been destroyed and millions of lives shattered, including many in my own community in Miami who fled its brutality,” said Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar. "I am proud to introduce this concurrent resolution denouncing the horrors of Socialism in the House, alongside Senator Rick Scott, to ensure Congress speaks with one voice in condemning Socialism in all its forms, wherever it rears its ugly head. America must always stand as the light of liberty against the darkness of socialism and its false promises of equality."

“Socialism is a failed ideology -- it has destroyed countries, crushed economies, and robbed millions of their basic human rights," said Senator Rick Scott. "Just look at Cuba and Venezuela, or talk to any of the thousands of families in my state of Florida who fled those regimes after evil dictators stripped them of every opportunity. Time and time again, socialism has led to the same, inevitable outcomes: misery, poverty, and oppression. It’s despicable to see far-left radicals villainizing capitalism – a system that has helped billions of American achieve their dreams – and try to tear down our country and rebuild it in their woke, radical image through socialist policies. The United States was built on individual freedoms and opportunities, and the right of every individual to pursue the American Dream despite coming from nothing, just like I did. Our resolution is a stark reminder for the far-left: socialism is a failure and Americans will always reject it.”

This resolution previously passed the House of Representatives in 2023, by a vote of 328-86, although sadly almost half of House Democrats opposed the measure. Unfortunately, it was blocked from consideration in the Senate by Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and the democratic-controlled Senate at the time.

This year’s resolution has already gained the support of more than 50 Members of Congress, including:

Original Cosponsors: Majority Leader Steve Scalise, and Representatives Bill Huizenga, Chris Smith, Carlos Gimenez, Mario Diaz-Balart, Joe Wilson, Tim Burchett, Young Kim, Troy Nehls, John Moolenaar, Ronny Jackson, Daniel Webster, Michael Cloud, Juan Ciscomani, Mike Turner, Robert Aderholt, Barry Moore, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, Russ Fulcher, Jeff Hurd, Buddy Carter, Russell Fry, Ron Estes, Addison McDowell, Jodey Arrington, Elise Stefanik, Tim Moore, Jim Baird, Claudia Tenney, Tim Walberg, Mary Miller, John McGuire, Rick Allen, Andy Ogles, Riley Moore, Dan Newhouse, Mike Lawler, Michael McCaul, Ben Cline, Michael Rulli, Roger Williams, Julia Letlow, John Rose, Mike Haridopolis, Brian Babin, Cory Mills, Mike Simpson, Gus Bilirakis, Randy Weber, Ken Calvert, Ashley Hinson, Michelle Fischbach, Don Bacon, Tony Gonzales, Nick Langworthy, and Andrew Garbarino.
