FY 2024 COMMUNITY FUNDING PROJECT REQUESTS

Title:  City of South Miami Septic Sanitary Sewer Project

  • Project Sponsor: City of South Miami
  • Project Amount: $4,800,000
  • Description: This project will provide public, sanitary sewer access to 205 homeowners in the City of South Miami. These homes are currently served by septic tank systems that are negatively impacting the City’s groundwater and drinking water. This project will provide more dependable and cleaner water to the City.

Title:  Miami-Dade County C-2 Watershed Stormwater Quality Improvement Project

  • Project Sponsor: Miami-Dade County
  • Project Amount: $1,815,000
  • Description: This project consists of contracting pollution control stormwater infrastructure to improve the water quality of direct discharges into Snapper Creek and surrounding areas. The project impacts the water quality of the C-2 watershed basin in Miami-Dade County. This project is a part of the overall stormwater management strategy put in place by Miami-Dade County to build resilience and protect Biscayne Bay.

Title:  City of Miami Golden Pines Neighborhood Roadway and Drainage Improvements Project

  • Project Sponsor: City of Miami
  • Project Amount: $4,687,000
  • Description: This project will provide for the total reconstruction of the no-outlet roadways intersecting the north and south sides of SW 27th Street from SW 27th to SW 31st Place. This construction will include drainage improvements, wider roadways, and new and safer sidewalks and crosswalks. Partnering with Miami-Dade County Water and Sewer Department, water main upgrades will be an integral part of the project.

Title:  Cutler Bay Saga Bay Community Water Quality Improvement Project    

  • Project Sponsor: Town of Cutler Bay
  • Project Amount: $2,000,000
  • Description: This project will fund the improvement of the stormwater management system and treat runoff pollutants in the Saga Bay neighborhood of Cutler Bay. This project calls for the installation of a stormwater pump station, modification, or reconstruction of existing catch basins to reduce water pollution, construction of additional catch basins, and installation of French drains and weir structure at each outfall to further restrict the discharge of pollutants into Saga Lake.

Title:  Pinecrest Stormwater Management and Drainage Improvement Project

  • Project Sponsor: Village of Pinecrest
  • Project Amount: $1,360,000
  • Description: This project will fund the installation of an enhanced stormwater drainage system in Pinecrest bounded by a private canal to the south, SW 67th Ct to the east, SW 69th Ave to the to the west and SW 124th St to the north.

Title:  West Miami Potable Water Project

  • Project Sponsor: City of West Miami
  • Project Amount: $2,000,000
  • Description: This project will fund the continued replacement of the city’s potable water system that is over 50 years old, undersized, and suffers from persistent leakage, failures, and ruptures.

Title: University of Miami Expansion of Reef Restoration Infrastructure

  • Project Sponsor: University of Miami
  • Project Amount: $3,300,000
  • Description: This project will fund the expansion of the Center for Coral Reef Restoration Science at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School on Key Biscayne. This increased infrastructure will allow for increased restoration efforts to maintain and rebuild reefs along our vulnerable coastline.

Title: University of Miami Aircraft Center for Earth Studies Expansion

  • Project Sponsor: University of Miami
  • Project Amount: $1,240,000
  • Description: This funding would be used to support the Aircraft Center for Earth Sciences existing lab, to create 3D-printed autonomous aircraft in Florida, such as solar drones, and multirotor drones. This center will also train local students and build capacity to create aircraft and remote sensing systems on site to facilitate rapid assessment of hurricane impacts and coral reef restoration.

Title:Village of Key Biscayne Coastal Storm Risk Management Feasibility Study

  • Project Sponsor: Village of Key Biscayne
  • Project Amount: $400,000
  • Description: This funding would allow for the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers to finish the bayside study which is part of the current Dade County Coastal Storm Risk Management study and will help protect nearly $10 billion of shoreline and property in Key Biscayne.

Title: Miami Dade College Historic Dyer Federal Courthouse Renovation

  • Project Sponsor: Miami-Dade College
  • Project Amount: $6,000,000
  • Description: This project would fund the renovation of the historic Dyer Federal Courthouse in downtown Miami. The building, now owned by Miami Dade College, will include shops, cafes, computer lab, and classrooms.

Title: City of Miami 52 at Flagler Senior Affordable Housing Development  

  • Project Sponsor: City of Miami
  • Project Amount: $4,500,000
  • Description: This project would fund the construction of an elderly affordable housing development consisting of 38 units, a state-of-the-art multipurpose room, communal fitness room, and computer room in a low-income part of the city.

Title: Miami Dade County – Seaport Decarbonization & Electrification Master Plan

  • Project Sponsor: Miami-Dade County
  • Project Amount: $5,000,000 ($4,000,000 requested)
  • Description: This request would fund the development of a port-wide Decarbonization and Electrification Master Plan. The goal of the Master Plan is to modernize operations through environmentally comprehensive and resilient electrical designs, to reduce emissions by transitioning from diesel to electrical, to explore feasible renewal energy opportunities, and to prepare for future needs. The Master Plan will prioritize the best return on investment and provide both environmental and economic benefits to Miami-Dade County and its residents.

Title: Coral Gables Mobility Hub

  • Project Sponsor: City of Coral Gables
  • Project Amount: $4,000,000
  • Description: This project will the fund the construction of a downtown mobility hub which would be a state-of-the-art parking structure and transit hub consisting of hundreds of new parking spaces, including 73 EV charging stations, and a regional transportation stop for local bus and trolley services. The Hub will also have an activated rooftop with open and closed air spaces for public use and congregation, including landscaped areas, and an air-conditioned venue space. 

Title:Palmetto Bay Veterans Park Development

  • Project Sponsor: Village of Palmetto Bay
  • Project Amount: $200,000
  • Description: This funding would begin the development of a new city park to honor those who have served our country. The funding would provide for the construction of a parking lot, walking path, and landscaping.

Title: Camp Mahachee Hardwood Hammock Restoration

  • Project Sponsor: Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida
  • Project Amount: $450,000
  • Description: This project will help restore an historic Girl Scout camp by funding the removal of invasive vines and plants, herbicide treatments of 7 acres of land, removal of dead trees, and planting of up to 6000 new trees.
